Book Donation

Dear OLHOC community,

We are currently collecting books for a school library in Bali, and we'd love your support. If you have any books in relatively good condition that you’re willing to donate, a representative will be collecting them from school during the first week of November.  They are especially in need of early reading books, so titles suitable for young children would be most appreciated.

Please see the attached letter and photos from Rose for more details.

Thank you in advance for your generosity!

"I recently visited the Tulamben Region in Eastern Bali and had the pleasure of attending an Educational Learning Centre named Yayasan Loka Mawa Upadhi. I spent a few days there and was blown away by the children and staff there who are passionate about learning English. This Learning Centre is administered by The Suwandi Foundation, which is a non-profit organisation dedicated to transforming the lives of underprivileged students in Bali, Indonesia through the power of education. The foundation builds education systems for Indonesian children and provides classrooms, volunteer programs and English language lessons. In what started as local children attending class on a beach bench 5 years ago in rural Tulamben is now an Educational Learning Centre –Yayasan Loka Mawa Upadhi, where 200 children from Kindy-Year 12 can study English and computer science. The goal of this foundation is to help end the cycle of young people having to give up their dreams of university to support their families in this rural region in Bali.

As a teacher, I was delighted that the children were so happy to see me and show me around their school. However, when I went to the library, my heart sank as there were NO BOOKS on the shelves. The centre’s library was completed 6 months ago but other projects around the learning centre have meant that no books have been resourced. My goal is to fill these shelves with books for early reading resources i.e books in good condition and not necessarily new, pre-loved are just as good. I have attached photos taken by myself last month while at the school.

If you know anyone or could assist in donating books, then the children and I would be very appreciative. I am happy to drive over and collect them. I am hoping to finalise the collection on the 05th December 25 so that they can be shipped by freight to Denpasar in early January 2026.

Regards Rose Elliott"
