Principal's Message - Brendon Napier

Hello families,
This week marks a very special time in our calendar of Catholic Education Week, celebrated across all of Queensland. It’s a time to reflect on and celebrate the incredible work happening in Catholic schools and the values that guide our communities.
Here in Cairns, we conclude the week with the Docemus Awards, which honour the outstanding contributions of staff across our diocese. We are incredibly proud to have three nominees representing our school this year:
- Tina Florindo-Soares – School Officer Category
- Gabi McArthur – Early Career Teacher
- Erica Robb – Teacher Category
Being nominated is a remarkable achievement, and we are so blessed to have them in our community. If you see Tina, Gabi, or Erica around the school, please take a moment to congratulate them. We’ll find out on Friday night if any have been successful in winning overall, fingers crossed!
We’ll also wrap up the week with one of our most attended events: Grandparents Day. It’s always a big occasion, filled with a lot of smiling faces on the young and old. We look forward to welcoming our grandparents and celebrating the special role they play in our students’ lives.
I want to take a moment to acknowledge how well the term has started. Our students’ behaviour has been outstanding, and it’s something truly worth celebrating. Thank you to all our families for partnering with us to reinforce our school values and expectations within the values, it makes a real difference.
It’s also important to highlight the extraordinary commitment of our staff, who continue to offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities before school, during play times, and after school. Their generosity and dedication show the strength of our school community. In this week of Catholic Education Week, there really is so much to celebrate.
A quick staffing update: Mrs Bethany Green, one of our Leaders of Learning, will be on Long Service Leave starting next week and will return next term. Mrs Carla Abeleven will be stepping into Bethany’s role during her absence.
As we reflect on the spirit of Catholic Education, this feels especially fitting:
“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” 1 Peter 4:10
I look forward to seeing you around the school whether it’s at the Mestrez Street gate or the Balaclava Road entrance. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions, concerns, or just want to chat.
Respect, Love, Mercy and Community
God Bless
Brendon Napier
